Orange Valley is the perfect halfway stopover or country retreat for the nature-lover and discerning traveller. The farm lies along the mighty Orange River just below the Gariep Dam wall on the border between Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Free State. Tar roads take you straight to our door where you’ll be greeted with typical Karoo hospitality. Probably the most spectacular sunsets and night skies you’ll ever see. Let your hosts Bruce and Sue Arnott introduce you to the splendours of this historical and malaria free area. The farm is the perfect getaway for family holidays with loads for the kids to do and learn, the pony rides and nature walks are a wonderful way for parents and children to get in touch with nature and the beauty that only the karoo possesses. Wonderful sunsets and wall to wall stars in the night skies.

River rafting
Paddle for 2 hours in two-man inflatable ‘crocs’ beginning at the Gariep Dam wall on the Orange River and progress through vertical cliffs, balancing rock formations, indigenous bush and lush lucerne lands. Grades 1 to 3 rapids – lots of smiling guaranteed!

Horse trails
Well-trained horses saddled with Western gear will take you to see breathtaking views of the Gariep Dam and the Orange River valley below. Experienced guides will lead the way and tell you about the surrounding areas. Three hour and one hour rides, as well as beginner trips are available.

Fly-fishing
The Orange River and Gariep Dam are well stocked with Yellowfish and Barbel. A guide is available or you can ‘tackle’ it alone.

Game viewing
For something a little different: hike, horse ride, mountain bike or view game from a jeep in the neighbouring Oviston and Gariep Nature Reserves Various species of antelope are easily spotted along with zebra and the shy Brown Hyena.

Bird watching
Undoubtedly one of the best places in the world to bird-watch, sighting birds of prey, water birds and smaller species inhabiting woodland and riverine ecosystems.

Appaloosa Horse Stud
The distinctive coat pattern makes this horse the most easily recognised of all horse breeds. The versatile Appaloosa excels in both the competitive and pleasure events. Its quiet temperament makes it an ideal choice for children and professional riders alike. The Appaloosa is highly regarded for its inherent stamina, which makes it well suited to endurance and competitive trail riding.
